Abstract

The article presents the specific features of fiction intended for children of preschool and primary school age. However, although the tasks and methods are the same for all types of literature, children's literature is characterized only by its own characteristics. Its characteristics are determined by educational goals and the age of students. Its main distinguishing feature is the harmonious combination of art with pedagogic requirements. This requirement means, in particular, taking into account the interests, cognitive abilities and age characteristics of children. The purpose of children's literature is to be educational reading at the same time. This goal defines the important tasks that society is called to perform. It is related to the specific kind of emotions that arise when reading literary works. Children are able to get aesthetic pleasure from what they read no less than adults. They joyfully dive into the fantastic world of fairy tales and adventures, sympathize with the heroes, feel the poetic rhythm, enjoy sound and verbal games.
