GEOPOLITICS OF WATER: ANALYZING THE HELMAND RIVER DISPUTE BETWEEN AFGHANISTAN AND IRAN

Abstract

 This paper explores various scholarly perspectives on water, focusing on its geopolitical importance, the water disputes between Afghanistan and Iran, and the mismanagement of shared resources that has led to ongoing conflicts. It further examines the root causes and repercussions of these issues, their impact on regional security, and the current state of the Helmand River, and outlines possible approaches to resolving the water-related tensions between the two nations.
