THE MECHANISM OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS IMPACT ON CARDIAC FUNCTION
Abstract
Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls (plaques), which can restrict blood flow or rupture and trigger blood clots. While it is commonly associated with coronary artery disease, it can affect arteries throughout the body. This article explores the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis, especially how it impacts the heart. The review includes developmental stages of atherosclerosis, its systemic effects, diagnostic techniques, clinical manifestations, and both pharmacological and interventional treatment options.
