THE IMPACT OF STRESS FACTORS ON FACIAL NERVE NEURITIS: NEUROIMMUNOLOGICAL MECHANISMS AND CLINICAL APPROACHES
Abstract
Facial nerve neuritis, particularly Bell’s palsy, is commonly associated with viral infections, autoimmune responses, and ischemic conditions. However, in recent years, the role of stress factors in the development of this disorder has gained increasing scientific attention. This article analyzes the impact of stress on facial nerve neuritis from a neuroimmunological perspective. Stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, increasing cortisol levels, which in turn suppresses the immune system, reactivates latent viruses, and intensifies inflammatory processes. Stress may also affect vascular tone, leading to ischemic damage of the facial nerve. The article discusses the clinical relevance of stress, diagnostic approaches, and treatment strategies, including psychological support and stress reduction techniques, and their impact on the recovery process.
