PHONOSTYLISTIC INTERFERENCE IN THE SOUND SYSTEMS OF THE ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

Abstract

This article explores the phenomenon of phonostylistic interference in the sound systems of the English and Uzbek languages, focusing on the influence of native language phonetic and stylistic features on the pronunciation and intonation of a foreign language. The study highlights how differences in vowel and consonant articulation, stress placement, and intonation patterns cause interference during the process of English language acquisition by Uzbek speakers. Comparative phonetic analysis reveals that Uzbek learners often transfer segmental and suprasegmental features from their native sound system, leading to deviations in English speech production. The article further discusses the pedagogical implications of these findings, emphasizing the importance of phonostylistic awareness and corrective strategies in second language teaching. The results suggest that effective pronunciation training and exposure to authentic speech models can significantly minimize interference and improve communicative competence.
