PREDICTORS OF FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES AFTER HIP FRACTURE SURGERY IN OLDER ADULTS

Abstract

This retrospective cohort study evaluated predictors of functional outcomes after hip fracture surgery among 82 adults (>18 years) treated at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Fergana Medical Institute of Public Health. Functional recovery at six months was assessed using the Barthel Index and mobility status. Older age, higher comorbidity burden, reduced hand-grip strength, and surgical delay longer than 48 hours were identified as independent predictors of poor recovery (p < 0.05). Pre-fracture assisted ambulation showed an association but was not statistically significant in the multivariate model. These findings highlight the value of early surgery and pre-operative functional assessment to improve postoperative outcomes. Risk-oriented rehabilitation strategies may contribute to enhancing functional recovery in adult hip fracture patients.
