COMBINED DIAGNOSTIC VALUE OF MRI AND PET IN THE DETECTION OF BRAIN TUMORS

Abstract

Brain tumors present significant diagnostic challenges due to their heterogeneous biological behavior, variable growth patterns, and overlap with non-neoplastic lesions. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains the primary imaging modality for anatomical assessment, while positron emission tomography (PET) provides metabolic and functional information. Combining MRI and PET offers a comprehensive diagnostic approach that enhances tumor detection, improves lesion characterization, and assists in differentiating between tumor types, treatment effects, and recurrence. This article evaluates the diagnostic value of integrated MRI–PET imaging and highlights its role in modern neuro-oncology.
