RUSSIAN PERFECTIVE AND IMPERFECTIVE VERB ASPECTS AND THEIR ENGLISH TENSE EQUIVALENTS: SEMANTIC AND TRANSLATION ANALYSIS
Abstract
This study explores the meanings and translation correspondences between Russian perfective and imperfective verbs and their English tense equivalents: present perfect, simple past, and past continuous. By using a contrastive and semantic approach, it examines how Russian aspects function in different contexts and highlights common challenges in translating these distinctions. The results show that Russian conveys action completion morphologically, whereas English relies on syntactic constructions, offering valuable insights for language teaching and translation practice.
