Expanded vermiculite is a natural layered silicate, and due to its high porosity, low density, and low thermal conductivity, it is a promising filler for creating lightweight and energy-efficient materials in construction. The mineralogical properties of vermiculite, its thermo-mechanical behavior, its role in mixtures, the effectiveness of its thermal insulation properties, as well as its contribution to the energy efficiency of buildings, are studied.
