“THE COTTON AFFAIR” (THE UZBEK AFFAIR): REPRESSIONS AND POLITICAL IMPACTS IN THE SOVIET PERIOD

Abstract

This article analyzes the “Cotton Affair” (also known as the “Uzbek Affair”) of the 1980s, examining corruption within the cotton system, political persecutions carried out against officials and cotton growers, as well as the impact of these events on society. The aim of the study is to analyze the influence of the repressions of that period on Uzbek society and to identify the social, economic, and legal consequences of political repression.
