THE USE OF KINESIOTHERAPY AND PHYSIOTHERAPY METHODS IN COMPLEX REHABILITATION FOR MIGRAINE: CLINICAL OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT
Abstract
Migraine represents a significant neurological disorder affecting approximately 15% of the global population, with substantial impacts on quality of life and socioeconomic productivity. While pharmacological interventions remain the primary treatment modality, growing evidence supports the integration of non-pharmacological approaches, particularly kinesiotherapy and physiotherapy, in comprehensive migraine management. This study evaluates the clinical efficacy of combined kinesiotherapy and physiotherapy interventions in migraine rehabilitation. Through a prospective observational study involving 86 migraine patients who underwent a 12-week rehabilitation program incorporating therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and patient education, we assessed outcomes using validated instruments including the Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), Headache Impact Test (HIT-6), and pain intensity scales. Results demonstrated significant improvements across all measured parameters: mean attack frequency decreased from 8.2±2.4 to 4.1±1.8 per month (p<0.001), attack duration reduced from 18.3±6.2 to 10.7±4.5 hours (p<0.001), and pain intensity declined from 7.8±1.2 to 4.9±1.6 on the Visual Analog Scale (p<0.001). MIDAS scores improved by 58% and HIT-6 scores decreased by 24 points on average. These findings support the integration of kinesiotherapy and physiotherapy as valuable components of multidisciplinary migraine management, offering patients additional therapeutic options that address musculoskeletal contributors to headache while potentially reducing reliance on pharmacological interventions alone.
