THE DIFFICULTIES IN ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION USUALLY EXPERIENCED BY UZBEK SPEAKERS

Abstract

The article discusses the challenges faced by Russian and Uzbek speakers in mastering English pronunciation, focusing on vowel and consonant differences between the languages. It emphasizes the complexity of English vowels, diphthongs, and consonants unfamiliar to Russian and Uzbek learners. Key difficulties include vowel length distinctions, diphthong unfamiliarity, and articulation differences. The work references D. Jones' phonetic studies, particularly the distinction between tense and lax vowels. Practical insights for English teachers on emphasizing vowel quality over duration and helping learners adapt to unfamiliar sounds are provided.
